Q: What are my chances
of being discovered?
A: Great! If you promote yourself -- be persistent, committed and driven
to succeed. That's half the battle. You also have to market your services.
Find your niche, go to auditions and develop a solid go-see list. It won't
be easy; but nothing worthwhile is ever easy.
Q: Do I need professional
pictures?
A: Yes. But, you don't have to spend a lot of money if you know the
tricks of the trade. Many professionals are willing to trade their services
in exchange for the right to use your photos as a part of their portfolio.
And, with the latest laser technology, printing is inexpensive and easy to
update.
Q: How much does it
cost to have an agency represent me?
A: Nothing. It is illegal for an agent to charge a listing or sign-up
fee. Agencies make commission based on the contracts they negotiate for you.
Q: What does an agent
look for in a model?
A: First and foremost, you must have a positive attitude. Then, add
a great smile, bright personality, professional manner and a desire to succeed.
Q: What is a model's
average income?
A: Different markets pay different rates. Supermodels make up to $30,000
per day. National advertisements pay approximately $1,600 to $4,000 per day.
Hourly rates can vary from $150 to $250 per hour. Models are also paid usage
rates for point of purchase, which includes billboards, posters and product
packaging.
Q: Once I am listed
with an agent, am I an employee?
A: Models are independent contractors and are responsible for their
own tax records.
Q: Can I be listed
as a model and actor?
A: Absolutely. There is always work for versatile talent.
